2022 Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Le Chapitre blc
Le Chapitre is one of the most revered single-vineyard sites in Marsannay, and in the hands of Sylvain Pataille, it produces a Chardonnay of breathtaking complexity and power. Sourced from very old vines planted in 1955 on a steep, east-facing slope of red clay and limestone scree, this wine rivals top Premier Cru whites from the Côte de Beaune. The 2022 vintage is exceptionally expressive, with a vibrant nose of orange peel, green mandarin, nectarine, and lemongrass. The palate is taut and energetic, driven by a sharp, racy acidity and a profound flint and limestone minerality, with subtle notes of white pepper and ample salinity that create a long, harmonious, and mouthwatering finish.
Reviews & Scores
-
95-96/100 - Heiner Lobenberg: "Vibrates in its grapefruit-orange interpretation. We retain this terroir expression with lots of flint and limestone on a fine tannin frame with intoxicating acid freshness... For Puligny-Montrachet drinkers from Leflaive this is definitely something that appeals, as we have a similar purism and smoky limestone reduction here. The wine is powerfully gripping and yet so delicious that I am hypnotized."
-
90-92/100 - Vinous (Neal Martin): "...has presence on the nose... The well-balanced palate has a touch of white pepper on the entry, taut and fresh with ample salinity dragging you back for more. The harmony develops in the glass. Very fine."
-
87-89/100 - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: (Review for 2022 vintage)
